A letter from Darren Bellshaw
Dear Dacorum Indian Society,
I saw with interest that the Society is celebration 50 years of Ugandan Asians in the UK - congratulations!
My maternal grandfather was Major Frank Ward, the Salvation Army Major in Heel Hempstead at the time the Ugandan Asian families arrived in the UK, and I'm humbled to see that he is mentioned several times on the Society's website and in the material for the online Exhibition.
After settling in the UK, the families presented my grandfather with gifts as a thank you for his efforts
- a wooden sculpture and a copper engraving. These have been precious to our family ever since, and came into my possession when Major Ward passed away in 2013.
In case it is of any interest, I've attached some recent photos of those gifts, as well as a newspaper article and photo from when the gifts were originally presented to him
- the photo is a colour version of the photo on the Society's.

Wishing all the best to all members of the Society - we think of you often.
Best wishes,
Darren Bellshaw
