Suhas Khanderia
I am indebted to my parents
I graduated from University of London as a Pharmacist and worked in the NHS in London for a number of years where she championed Community Pharmacists and was responsible for setting up and in the delivery of education and training to many healthcare professionals. Following this and always spurred on by our parents who championed educational attainment, she attained an MBA from Ashridge Business School and went on to work in the City for FTSE 100 companies as a management consultant.
Third Generation
I have two daughters, Esha who is a Surgeon in the NHS and Neha who is training to be a specialist in the NHS.
My sister Dharini
Dharini went on to study at the University of Hertfordshire and became a successful Housing Manager at Dacorum Council. She served on the bench for many years as a Magistrate and continued to support homeless people helping in establishing DENS which aims to support people in Dacorum who are facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion. She was an inspirational role model for many people in Hemel Hempstead
Third Generation
Dharini’s older daughter Meera is a Pharmacist working in the NHS and Kiran her younger daughter has followed in her mum’s footsteps and works in Human resources in Local Government.
Values instilled by our parents
The values our parents instilled in us of helping others, being of service to the community and giving without expectations, has shaped our lives. My parents ran a voluntary Gujarati School for about 30 years where local children who wished to learn to read, write and speak Gujarati were taught free of charge every Saturday morning. Their dedication to teaching and helping others through Victims Support, cultural groups, the anti-racist council and many more organisations in the community has spurred on their family and many friends to do the same. Our mum was awarded the Volunteer of the year award for her work and dedication. For us, their children and grandchildren, our journey doesn’t end here the aspirations of our parents lead us to live lives that we and they can be very proud of and we in turn have ensured that we continue to instil the same aspirations to our children to achieve their potential. We strongly believe that our parents showed immense resilience, courage and strength arriving in this country penniless, and being able to create a stable loving home, despite facing many adversities ensured that we reached our potential achieving success in our areas of work. We are very proud and lucky to have had parents who have always been there for us and to share our story with you. Thank you, Mum and Dad, for being so loving kind and thoughtful and supportive parents and we owe our success to you both.
