Ghanshyambhai Ambala Patel

Introduction

On 4 August 1972, Ugandan President Idi Amin gave his country's Asian population 90 days in which to leave the country. Almost 40,000 Ugandan Asians who would come to the UK over the months that followed to start new lives, leaving behind homes and businesses in the country of their birth was Mr Ghanshyambhai Patel (Gunner to his friends) who let Uganda on 25 th September 1972 with his beloved wife Hansa Patel and three Children – Jayendra (Jay), Alka and Vinit. After spending 3 Months in a Refugee camp at Stradishall near Bury St Edmunds Suffolk settled in Hemel Hempstead

He worked for Addressograph MuiltGraph on Mayland Avenue until it closed down then at Shell Petrol Station near the M1 Junction while his Wife Hansa worked at Williamers near B&Q. “Alka” Daughter married with two bous and three Grand Children lives in Bushey and “Vinit” Son who lives Sherffield has two boys. “Jay” Son did a 4 years Apprenticeship with Computer Tecnology on Eaton Road, who was born in Kampala in 1955 He has spent his working life in the IT industry and now runs a successful company together with his wife Gita. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a keen sportsman, playing golf off a single figure handicap, and in his younger days played cricket for Hemel Hempstead Town. He also enjoys football, having supported Liverpool Football Club for the last 50 years. He is a keen Freemason and has achived the rank of Provincial Assistance Grand Master in 2014 (First of Indian Heritage in Hertforshire) sinces 1797. He has one daughter “Hetal” who is married with two girls and lives in Singapour and Son “Kayur” who lives in Bushey who has qualified as a Dentist from Leeds Uninversity in 2010 now practises in Leighton Buzzard.
